Ingredients
Base Dough
- 2 cups (250g) All-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp (8g) Cornstarch
- 1 tsp (4g) Baking powder
- ½ tsp (3g) Baking soda
- A pinch of Salt
- ½ cup (115g) Unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup (100g) Brown sugar
- ¼ cup (50g) White sugar
- 1 large Egg
- 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
- 1 cup (170g) Chocolate chips
For the Chocolate Portion
- 2 tbsp (12g) Unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Milk (or a splash to loosen dough)
Instructions
- Cream: Mix the softened butter with both brown and white sugars until the mixture is light and fluffy.
- Emulsify: Mix in the egg and vanilla extract until the batter is smooth and creamy.
- Combine: In a separate bowl, whisk the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Fold these dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
- Split: Divide the dough equally into two separate bowls.
- Flavor: Leave one bowl as plain vanilla dough. To the second bowl, add the cocoa powder and milk, mixing gently until a uniform chocolate dough forms.
- Add Chips: Fold the chocolate chips evenly into both dough portions.
- Marble: Pinch small amounts of both the plain and chocolate dough. Press them lightly together and roll into balls to create the marbled pattern.
- Chill: Arrange the balls on a lined baking tray. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to ensure thicker cookies.
- Bake: Bake at 170°C for 10–12 minutes. The edges should be set, but the centers should still look slightly soft.
- Cool: Allow the cookies to cool completely on the tray to let the marble pattern set and the texture firm up.
